Julia Blackburn wurde 1948 als einziges Kind des Dichters Thomas Blackburn und der Malerin Rosalie de Meric in London geboren. Neben ihren Memoiren, die unter anderem auf der Shortlist des Ondaatje-Preises standen, hat sie Romane geschrieben, für die sie bereits zweimal den Orange-Prize und 2017 den New-Angle-Prize erhielt. Sie hat zwei Kinder und lebt in Suffolk und Italien.
