Eiichiro Oda wurde 1975 in der Kumamoto-Präfektur in Japan geboren. 1992 gewann er mit seinem bereits zu Schulzeiten kreierten Kurzgeschichtenband "WANTED!" den 2. Preis beim 44. Tezuka-Award. Nachdem er als Assistenzzeichner gearbeitet hatte, debütierte er 1997 mit seiner Serie ONE PIECE im Magazin WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP. Mit seinen tollen Charakteren, dynamischer Action und packender Geschichte genießt der Manga ONE PIECE eine unglaublich große Popularität. Allein in Japan wurden bereits über 200 Millionen Exemplare der Serie verkauft. ONE PIECE feiert multimedial große Erfolge: die Serie wurde als Anime adaptiert, ebenso gibt es eine Reihe von Games, Kinofilmen u.v.m. Die Serie hat auch in Europa und den USA unzählige Fans.
