The Cultural Revolution in China is the theme of this novel. A testament to the terrible experiences of writer Dai Siji. It can also be described as an entreaty wrapped in the love between two souls (?). Over and above that, it is about the inner conflicts and moral dilemmas faced by two young hearts, packaged as a satire. Dai Sijie, geboren 1954 in der Provinz Fujian in China, wurde von 1971 bis 1974 im Zuge der kulturellen Umerziehung in ein Bergdorf geschickt. Nach Maos Tod studierte er Kunstgeschichte und emigrierte 1984 nach Paris. »Balzac und die kleine chinesische Schneiderin«, sein erster Roman, wurde ein großer internationaler Erfolg und in einer französisch-chinesischen Produktion erfolgreich verfilmt. Zuletzt erschien von ihm auf deutsch »Die lange Reise des Yong Sheng«.
