Hajime Isayama wurde am 29. August 1986 in Oyama, Hita, (Japan) geboren. 2008 bekam er für HEART BREAK ONE den Special Encouragement Award im 80. Newcomer-Wettbewerb des japanischen "Weekly Shonen Magazine". Im gleichen Jahr kam er mit ORZ im 81. Newcomer-Wettbewerb des "Weekly Shonen Magazine" in die engere Auswahl und gab im "Magazine Special" sein Debüt mit einer ersten abgeschlossenen Geschichte. Seit Oktober 2010 läuft ATTACK ON TITAN als Serie im Magazin "Bessastsu Shonen". 2011 gewann Isayama mit ATTACK ON TITAN den 35. Kodansha-Manga-Award in der Kategorie Shonen.
